Happy New Year!


Hello everybody - how's the new year treating you so far?  We've had a lovely Christmas break here at HQ, recharged our batteries and are gearing up for what we hope will be a busy and exciting year.  We have some brilliant new fabrics which have arrived over the holidays including The Sweetest Thing by Zoe Pearn

Single Duvet Cover for Noah


My first project of the year has been to make a new duvet cover for Noah.


If you've ever considered doing this but have been put off by the fact that normal quilting weight cotton width would mean having to live with ugly seams showing (not ideal), then think again.  I can honestly say that once you have your measurements, this is one of the simplest sewing projects ever.  You get amazing, room changing results in next to no time, plus (hopefully!) one very happy kid.  I'm already being pestered by Will to make one for him in this brilliant Pirate Mateys fabric (of course... what else?)

 

I knew that the Green Cars and Houses from the Summersville collection would look perfect in Noah's room. You can use a sheet for the back and border or our super wide calico is perfect for the job.

  
 
I just measured the size of Noah's existing duvet covers but if you want to follow a tutorial, check out the brilliant Cat Taylor Design single duvet tutorial.  I wanted to make the border go all the way around the Summersville fabric so I reduced the size of the Summersville piece and added a strip of the backing fabric to the top and bottom before attaching it to the backing, giving a nice equal border on the front.
 
 
 
 
Bed time this evening was a joy - we have our very own happy little Wild Thing. Although once the wild rumpus had started, the bed didn't stay tidy for long!

    Rae, I just love this tutorial by Cat Taylor and can't wait to get stuck into making Sammy's first ever duvet cover!
    I know he's going to love it, so it will give me great pleasure making one of these - thank you Rae for the inspiration, can't wait to receive my fabric.
    I'll post a picture once finished and let you know how it goes x
